Practice lead

Khurram Chughtai

The practice is led by Khurram Chughtai, with more than twenty years in legal practice.

His work spans corporate and commercial matters, litigation, taxation, regulation and ICT, alongside teaching and legislative drafting. This foundation informs JUSNREM's work on legal intelligence, governance and institutional design.

The Collaborative Strategist

The particular legal issue rarely stands alone. A contract allocates control and value. A dispute exposes the limits of an arrangement. An institutional decision affects people beyond those who made it.

The Collaborative Strategist describes Khurram's approach to these connections: bring the relevant disciplines into the inquiry, examine the wider consequences and keep responsibility for advice and decisions identifiable.

About the practice
Senior Partner

Syed Imran Ali

Senior Partner, JUSNREM | Solicitor, Eccleston Solicitors

Syed Imran Ali is a Senior Partner in the JUSNREM ecosystem and a solicitor at Eccleston Solicitors. As part of JUSNREM’s London team, he brings substantial experience in rights-based advocacy, cross-border matters, legal drafting and evidential analysis to its international work in counsel, research and Legal Intelligence.

His practice focuses on complex immigration and human rights matters, with particular expertise in cases involving former Nepalese Gurkha soldiers and their families. He has extensive experience in adult dependent child appeals, settlement applications and family life claims, including multi-appellant proceedings involving intricate family histories, dependency arrangements and relationships spanning jurisdictions.

Imran’s approach combines meticulous preparation with clear, persuasive legal reasoning. He examines how individual facts, documentary records and legal requirements fit together, identifying evidential gaps and presenting complex circumstances coherently before decision-makers and tribunals. His work gives particular attention to emotional dependency, financial support and the consequences of institutional decisions for individuals and families.

Within JUSNREM, this experience provides a practical perspective on evidence, institutional accountability and effective access to rights and remedies. He is also a principal writer and editor for the planned UK edition of Code, Law and Capital, alongside M. Umar.

Success in litigation is rarely the result of a single argument. It is achieved through meticulous preparation, careful analysis, and the ability to present every relevant fact clearly and persuasively.

Working together

Define the matter.
Identify responsibility.

Some matters require legal judgment alongside scientific, technical, financial or operational expertise. The engagement should identify the contributors needed, the questions each is responsible for and how their work will be brought together.

For a cross-border instruction, the scope must distinguish the relevant jurisdictions and the counsel qualified to undertake each part. The collaborative model does not imply an existing office or entitlement to practise in every country.

Begin with a short, non-confidential introduction. Scope, responsible participants and terms are agreed before an engagement begins.
